Ruislip represented the London Borough of Hillingdon in the London Mayors' Association Annual Inter-Boroughs Competition Final, held at Ham & Petersham Rifle Club on the 3rd September 2016. This year's final was exciting, with the result being decided by a shoot-off between Hillingdon and Kingston.
Conditions were not ideal, with a noticeable wind and stronger gusts from time to time. After a period when all teams could sight in, the five boroughs in the final - Barnet, Harrow, Hillingdon, Kingston and Richmond - shot in a round robin format. For each round, the two teams of eight firers had 24 clay discs to hit at a range of 100 yards, the first team to hit all their discs winning the round.
After the ten rounds, we had beaten Barnet, Harrow and Kingston and lost to Richmond. Kingston had beaten Barnet, Harrow and Richmond. So with the score tied on three wins each, the winner was decided with a shoot-off between Hillingdon and Kingston. After a minute and 6 seconds (which seemed much longer to the shooters), we downed our last clay disc while Kingston still had 5 remaining and we were declared the winners. Our delight in winning this prestigious competition was shared by Hillingdon's Deputy Mayor, Councillor Carol Melvin, who was watching from behind the firing point and cheering us on. This is the eighth time Hillingdon has won in ten years.
